Product
CORMO
Casing Soil
Developed for industrial mushroom production, based on Miscanthus.
- 80% less peatthan conventional casing soil
- Equal performancein yield and quality
- No changeoverof equipment or processes
- 32% less CO₂*in the mushroom producer’s operation
*Calculation by CORMO AG for the user’s mushroom production after a complete switch to CORMO Casing Soil.

Application
Use it
as usual
CORMO Casing Soil is used in existing farms without any changes to equipment or processes. That is why CORMO developed and tested it from the outset under the conditions of industrial growing operations.
- No adjustmentsto equipment or processes
- In existing farmsready to use
- Developed and testedunder industrial growing conditions

Performance
Measured
against peat
The benchmark for development is conventional peat casing. CORMO assesses the casing soil against the criteria that determine yield and quality in cultivation.
CORMO Casing Soil reaches the level of conventional peat casing in all criteria.
- Water-holding capacity and water management
- Structure and structural stability
- pH stability during the production cycle
- Handling and processing
- Yield and quality
- Reproducible results
Raw material
Miscanthus
as raw material
CORMO developed its first casing soil based on maize straw. Because maize straw could not be supplied on an industrial scale, CORMO now relies on Miscanthus.
Miscanthus could also supply the entire European mushroom industry with casing soil.

1Miscanthus
Miscanthus is a perennial grass that grows back every year and can be cultivated on a large scale.

2Preparation and formulation
How well it works in casing soil depends on preparation and formulation. CORMO has developed both over many years.

3CORMO Casing Soil
The material performs well functionally, delivers consistent quality and can be processed industrially.

Validation
Industrial
validation
CORMO has been working with a leading Dutch partner from the mushroom industry for many years.
The results of the joint test series feed directly into the further development of CORMO Casing Soil.
The current product generation is being validated industrially over several production cycles.
Outlook
On the way to
zero percent peat
The remaining 20 percent peat is to be replaced in the next product generation as well. To achieve this, the material must take over all the functions that peat still performs in the mix today, with at least the same performance.
